These classic turn-based titles need no introduction. All five titles present on GOG have gathered a huge fanbase with Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete being the most notable one. Warning! Conquering colorful fantasy lands in these games can be insanely addictive.
I think 3 still holds up really well, and the system is efficient and the gameplay simple and direct., and the 2D art is laregely fantastic (the final expansion art is unfortunately wretched, but I've learned to tolerate it). 5 was pretty weak when it launched, but by the time Tribes of the East came out, I honestly think it's the (just barely)
As KEgstedt said, MM and HoMM are completely different (in genres), but related. MMs started with the worlds, webway, etc. (yes, MM worlds are fantasy mixed with sci-fi), HoMMs just take place in their world (and move the storyline) - and they became more popular than the MM games. The gorgon is the fifth-level creature of the Fortress faction in Heroes of Might and Magic III. It can be recruited from the gorgon lair. The gorgon can be upgraded to the mighty gorgon. The sturdy gorgons attack with their acidic breath. Like the basilisk, the gorgon is a useful frontline fighter, but far more sturdy. Taking them out with ranged attacks or spells is usually the best option Heroes 3 is more complete in general. Heroes 4 was made when 3DO was having a lot of financial troubles so they had budget cuts and the game was released in a beta state. H4 has some interesting ideas like the magic & skill system, which I liked. But the problem is the heroes. Heroes in H4 is more like RPG. Attention: HotA is not to be installed on top of “Heroes of Might and Magic III — HD Edition” (from Ubisoft), or on top of “Restoration of Erathia” or “Armageddon’s Blade” HoMM III versions. DOcIs4W.
